The Morrocoy Nacional Park is located in the Falcon state in the north-west of Venezuela between the villages of Chichiriviche and Tucacas. It was declared national park in 1974 and it is 32.090 hectares large.

Being a national park is supervised by INPARQUES (national parks institute) who maintain its order and control.

The park includes terrestrial areas as well as maritime ones. There’s an enormous mangroves area and infinite little islands or cayes.
The most important are Borracho, Muerto, Pelon, Sombrero, Boca Seca, Playuela and Peraza.

The cayos are the keepers of an incomparable beauty with crystal clear waters and wonderful sandy beaches.

Cayo Muerto is the closest to Chichiriviche and the one with the most coconut trees.

Thanks to the low depth of the seas here, it’s possible to admire the coral formations and the bio diversity of the marine fauna.
Bird watching is recommended since 80% of the Venezuelan bird species comes here during the year.

It’s possible to go to the cayes with private boats or with local fishermen’s ones and you can even share the cost of the trip with other passengers.

The dense mangrove vegetation, the multitude and diversity of birds and the whole fauna are some of the beauties that this unique place has to offer.

We can find caves with indigenous graffiti dated 5000 B.C.
